The amount of carbon dioxide in Earth's sky has increased sharply since 1911.  This increase in carbon dioxide is greater than the natural increase since the last Ice Age, as a result of industrial development throughout the world.

As carbon dioxide increases in the lower sky (up to roughly 5 miles above solid Earth) it traps infrared radiation from the sun that causes global temperatures to rise.
